Lady Panthers start soccer program with 1-3-1 record at Spring Hill tournament

A historical event occurred last week within the Bullard High School athletic department, as the Bullard Lady Panther varsity soccer team participated at the Spring Hill Soccer Tournament, held Thursday through Saturday, Jan. 4-6, at Spring Hill High School.

In its inaugural contest, the Bullard Lady Panther soccer team faced off against the Nacogdoches Lady Dragons Thursday.

Despite a valiant effort by the Lady Panther squad, the team was unable to get the ball past the Lady Dragons’ goalkeeper, as Nacogdoches defeated Bullard, 1-0.

Bullard Lady Panthers 0, Spring Hill Lady Panthers 0, FINAL

In the second game at the Spring Hill Soccer Tournament, the Bullard Lady Panther varsity soccer team was pitted against the host team, the Spring Hill Lady Panthers Thursday.

During the contest, the Lady Panther teams from Bullard and Spring Hill scratched and clawed at each other as both teams advanced the ball down field well. However, neither team was able to get the ball into the net, resulting in a 0-0 tie.

Bullard Lady Panthers 0, Kilgore Lady Bulldogs 3, FINAL

In the third game at the Spring Hill Soccer Tournament, the Bullard Lady Panther varsity soccer team battled against the Kilgore Lady Bulldogs Friday.

The Bullard squad had several strong showings, both offensively and defensively, throughout the matchup. Several of the Lady Panthers’ shots on goal were strong, but the goalkeeper for Kilgore was able to stop all shots on goal.

Kilgore capitalized on offensive opportunities throughout the contest, moving the ball through the Panther defense well, as the Lady Bulldogs collected three goals to defeat the Lady Panthers, 3-0.

Bullard Lady Panthers 0, Texarkana Pleasant Grove Lady Hawks 1, FINAL

In the fourth game at the Spring Hill Soccer Tournament, the Bullard Lady Panther varsity soccer team matched up against the Texarkana Pleasant Grove Lady Hawks Friday.

Once again, the Lady Panthers worked well to move the ball in and around the defense of its opponent, the Lady Hawks, but were unable to kick the ball past the solid play of the opponent’s goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, the Lady Hawks flew past the Lady Panthers on one solid offensive drive, resulting in the contest’s lone goal, as the Lady Hawks defeated the Lady Panthers, 1-0.

Bullard Lady Panthers 7, Pittsburg Lady Pirates 0, FINAL

In the fifth and final game at the Spring Hill Soccer Tournament, the Bullard Lady Panther varsity soccer team competed against the Pittsburg Lady Pirates Saturday.

The Bullard team held the offensive momentum throughout the contest, flummoxing the Pittsburg defense and putting the ball into the net a total of seven times.

Molly Martin had the first official goal for the Lady Panther varsity soccer team, one of her two goals in the contest against the Lady Pirates.

Other goals collected in the contest between Bullard and Pittsburg were scored by Tatum Rigsby, Lindy Martin, Ashlyn Meador, Rachel Shumate, and Kaitlynn Henics.

Assists in the matchup between the Lady Panthers and the Lady Pirates were attributed to Erin Monreal, Henics, Ashley Waterman, and Jarrett Whatley.

In the goal for the Lady Panthers, Meador was a force during the first half of play, stopping all of the Lady Pirates’ shots on goal. During the second d half of the game, Meador was replaced by Jacelyn Cowart, who did not face a shot thanks to the strong play of the Bullard defense.

After competing in the Spring Hill Soccer Tournament, the Bullard Lady Panther varsity soccer team currently holds an overall record of 1-3-1 on the 2018 season.

Next week: Tuesday, Jan. 9 – Diboll at Bullard; Thursday through Saturday, Jan. 11-13 – Bullard at Nacogdoches Tournament.
