Although the summer months are here, athletes within the Bullard Lady Panther volleyball program are gearing up for two upcoming opportunities, hosted by the program, to work on preparing for the next season of play.
First, the Lady Panther volleyball program’s incoming 10th – 12th grade players will have a chance to get ready by attending a camp scheduled for 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
“It’s always exciting when camp rolls around because it starts to put the excitement of season in the air,” said Cristy O’Bannon, Lady Panther volleyball head coach. “It usually runs a week or two before season starts up and always seems to turn my brain on and gets my wheels turning. The girls always leave camp ready and hungry that season is about to start which only excited me more.”
According to a flyer for the camp, the instructor will be Lyndsay Mashe, the head volleyball coach at the University of Texas at Tyler. The camp will focus on fundamentals of the game, including passing, setting, serving, hitting, blocking, defense, and teamwork.
The cost for the 10th-12th grade camp with Mashe is $95, with payment due on-site the first day of the camp.
The Lady Panther volleyball program will also hold a camp for incoming 2018-2019 ninth grade athletes, to be held 1-4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, July 16-18, inside the Bullard High School gymnasium.
“With the ninth camp, we will focus on all aspects of the game and it’s a great time for them to start learning my techniques and systems,” said O’Bannon. “It’s a great jump start to their high school career and helps them understand how we do things in the high school program. Also, with Coach Mashe running the camp for the older girls, I’ll be able to watch them while also run camp for my freshmen on the same dates.”
Cost for the ninth grade camp will be $60. According to O’Bannon, walk-up registrations for the camp will be accepted.
Registration forms and payment for both camps can be mailed to Cristy O’Bannon, 413 W. Cumberland Rd. #302, Tyler, Tex. 75703. Checks can be made payable to O’Bannon.
All athletes attending both camps are encouraged to wear appropriate athlete attire, meaning no jeans, jean shorts, halter-tops, or spaghetti strap shirts. It’s also recommended for athletes to bring their own knee pads.
