The Brook Hill Lady Guard varsity softball team swung back into district action last week, as the team traveled the short distance to Tyler for a district matchup against the Bishop T.K. Gorman Lady Crusaders Monday, April 10, at Bishop Gorman High School.
The Lady Guard was able to begin the contest with a bombardment of offense against the Lady Crusaders, using their powerful bats to collect a total of 10 runs in the top of the first inning.
While the Lady Guard’s pitching and defensive efforts was able to withstand the Lady Crusaders at the plate, Brook Hill’s offensive success continued to allow runners to cross home plate, as the Lady Guard plated eight runs in the second inning and two runs in the third inning, en route to claiming the district shutout victory over the Lady Crusaders, 20-0.
The Lady Guard was led at the plate by the bats of AD Kuechle and Micah Lovelady. Kuechle turned in a 1-1 performance, including a double, with three runs batted in, while Lovelady went 1-1 with four RBIs.
Other significant contributors for the Lady Guard against the Lady Crusaders included Kyndel Clayton, going 2-3, including a double and a triple, with four RBIs; Maddie Anthony, going 1-1 with two RBIs; Alyssa Duplichain, going 2-2 with one RBI; Vanna Dean, collecting one walk and one RBI; Cassie Cannon, collecting one walk and one RBI; Kaitlyn Juarez, going collecting two walks and one RBI; and Natalie Travis, collecting one walk and one RBI.
Lovelady collected the win for the Lady Guard in the circle against the Lady Crusaders, allowing no hits and no runs, while striking out three and walking two, in one inning of work.
The coaches for the Lady Guard varsity softball team elected to use Dean in relief in the circle, allowing one hit and no runs, while walking one, in two innings of pitching.
With a 1-0 record in district play, the Brook Hill Lady Guard varsity softball team currently stands with an overall record of 17-7, 5-0 in district play.
