Inside and Outside the Picket Fence

I have been overjoyed by the number of volunteers who have been arriving on a weekly basis to help make this beautiful spot in Wood County a reality. Thank you if you are among this group, and another thank you if you have stopped by the gardens recently to watch the plants each take their turn in unfolding their beautiful shapes, colors and fragrances. If you have not joined us yet as a volunteer or a guest, it will amaze you as you drive to the back of Hogg Park.

Our “Barn Builders” have painted the front of the barn and will be working on that project again this week. Closets in the house have been cleaned out, furniture and other items have been moved, gardens are undergoing various renovations, and a general air of activity surrounds this venue.

I am feeling quite optimistic (which does not happen very often I must add) about the future of the Quitman Arboretum and Botanical Gardens as we enter the fall of the year. A HUGE yard sale will be held in front of the house on Sept. 23. Items are rolling in weekly, and we are pricing as fast as we can. The annual Fall Plant Sale will take place on Oct. 14. If you have any donations for the yard sale you may deliver them on any Wednesday until Sept. 20.

Thank you for your support. Please join us – no experience necessary. As always, the coffee is on.
