Guard soccer advances to playoffs

Bishop Gorman Crusader 0, FINAL

The Brook Hill Guard varsity soccer team was back in action on the field of play last week, as the team hosted its annual Senior Night contest against the Bishop T.K. Gorman Crusaders Monday, Jan. 29, at Herrington Stadium at Young Field.

Throughout the contest, the Guard reigned supreme, as the home team Brook Hill moved the ball down the field efficiently, with a total of five kicks going into the net, as the Guard claimed the district win against the Crusaders, 5-0.

Brook Hill’s Caleb Collins proved to have a sure kick against the Crusaders, as two of his shots on goal sailed past the goalie and into the net.

Other goals collected by Brook Hill against Bishop Gorman were attributed to Winston Hebert, Rush McLarry, and Zakhar Zapolskyy.

In the goal for Brook Hill, the team was protected by the strong play of Josh Jenkins, who collected a total of five saves in the contest.

All Saints Trojans 1, FINAL

For their second matchup of the week, the Brook hill Guard varsity soccer team continued in district play, as the team traveled to Tyler for their final district matchup of the season, facing off against the All Saints Trojans Thursday, Feb. 1, at All Saints High School.

Despite one ball finding its way into Brook Hill’s net, the Guard was able to go on a strong offensive attack against the Trojans, as the visiting Brook Hill squad found their way to three scores in the contest, claiming the win over All Saints, 3-1.

This time for the Guard, Hebert was able to contribute several big kicks, as he collected a total of two scores against the Trojans. Also scoring in brook Hill’s favor was Pierre Bakouetila.

Jenkins proved to be valuable to the Guard in the contest against the Trojans, stopping a total of nine shots.

With a record of 2-0 last week, the Brook Hill Guard varsity soccer team finished the 2017-2018 regular season with an overall record of 9-2-1, 5-1 in district play, which allows the team to advance to the TAPPS playoffs, according to head coach David Collins.
