A Bullard teenager was killed, and four others were injured, after a rollover accident in North Central Texas last weekend.
According to reports, the accident occurred around 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, on Interstate 35 near mile marker 348, south of the city of West, causing traffic to be backed up for hours.
A Texas Department of Public Safety official said that the preliminary cause of the wreck seemed to be caused by a tire that blew out. As a result, the driver lost control of the vehicle and overturned multiple times, causing three passengers to be ejected.
The report indicated that three of the five people inside of the vehicle were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Pronounced dead at the scene was Anna Wegener, 19, of Bullard, a Class of 2017 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler and current Texas A&M University student. Four other people were taken to the hospital for their injuries, including one of the injured that was airlifted by helicopter.
The group traveling with Wegener was presumably en route to Young Life Frontier Ranch in Buena Vista, Colo.
According to DPS, no charges have been filed in the investigation.
