Bullard soccer falls to Center, Mineola in recent contests

Bullard Panthers 0, Mineola Yellowjackets 4, FINAL

Returning back to the field of play last week was the Bullard Panther varsity soccer team, as the team hosted a home matchup against the Mineola Yellowjackets Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Bullard High School’s Panther Stadium.

In the first half of the matchup, the home team Bullard and visiting Mineola teams moved the ball down field well, but were met with strong opposition by the other team’s defensive efforts, resulting in a 0-0 tie at intermission.

The Yellowjackets swarmed past the Panthers in the second half of the contest, as Mineola stung the Panther defense for a total of four goals in the second half of the contest, allowing Mineola to fly past Bullard and claim the victory in the game, 4-0.

In the goal for the Panthers, sophomore goalkeeper Pedro Rodriguez stopped a total of 13 of the 14 shots he faced, while sophomore goalkeeper Caleb Carmichael collected one save on the two shots fired his way.

Bullard Panthers 2, Center Roughriders 3, FINAL

In their second contest of the week, the Bullard Panther varsity soccer team loaded the bus and traveled to battle against the Center Roughriders Friday, Feb. 2, at Center High School.

The Panthers and the Roughriders proved to be evenly matched up in the first half of the contest, with both teams collecting one goal each.

In the second half, the visiting Panthers added an additional goal to their total, but the home team Roughriders found their way around the Panther defense, placing the ball into the net twice, as Center claimed the win over Bullard, 3-2.

For the Panthers, both goals in the contest against the Roughriders were attributed to sophomore midfielder Arne Goetz, with assists going to junior midfielder Fabian Jimenez and junior midfielder Zach Vanwinkle.

In the goal for Bullard, Rodriguez was able to collect seven saves out of the nine shots fired his way, while Carmichael stopped 10 of the 11 shots he faced.

With a record of 0-2 last week, the Bullard Panther varsity soccer team currently stands with an overall record of 0-8-1 on the 2017-2018 season.
