The Bullard High School Class of 2017 will be the honored guests at the Class of 2017 Baccalaureate Service, to be held 6 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at Bullard Southern Baptist Church, located at 716 N. Houston St. The service is hosted by the Bullard Ministerial Alliance.

“The Bullard Ministerial Alliance is always excited to host the annual BHS Baccalaureate Service,” said David Brasher, pastor of Bullard First United Methodist Church. “We want to help celebrate this milestone achievement in these young people’s lives. They’ve all worked hard to get to this point of high school graduation, and now, they are going out into the world, whether to college or the workforce. It’s an important time to stop and thank God for the work He has done in their lives, and give him the glory for leading them this far and leading them into the future.”

Guest speaker for the 2017 Baccalaureate Service will be Robert Mike Bell, co-youth pastor at BSBC.

Bell serves as the co-youth pastor at BSBC with Benjamin Rogers, beginning his tenure in August 2013. He is married to his wife, Jennifer, and has two daughters, Katie Bell, a BHS Class of 2016 graduate and current student at Dallas Baptist University; and Reagan, currently a junior at BHS. Bell is a graduate of Deer Park High School Class of 1987. Afterwards, he graduated from Texas A&M University – College Station in 1994 with a Bachelors degree in business administration - management information systems.

“Mike has been one of the youth pastors at BSBC for a while now,” said Brasher. “In fact, he probably knows most of the senior in the Class of 2017 very well. We believe he is going to bring a timely message to the seniors that will challenge them and encourage them as they go on into the future.”

Music for the event will be provided by the BSBC praise and worship team. Graduates are asked to wear their graduation caps and gowns to the event.

A reception for students, family, and friends will follow the service. An RSVP for the graduates attending the event is recommended by Brasher.

“Baccalaureate is an optional event for the seniors to attend,” said Brasher. “It’s not required, but we, as the Bullard Ministerial Alliance, offer the service to those who wish to participate. It’s a way for the community to come together, bringing together multiple churches and other members of the community, to celebrate this great occasion with the BHS seniors.”
