Bullard JV increases streak to eight, claims title at Brownsboro Tournament

The Bullard Lady Panther junior varsity basketball team recently experienced a high level of success on the court in previous contests, ending a two-week run with a 5-0 record and a championship title.

In the first game of the stretch, the Bullard Lady Panther junior varsity basketball team played the part of host for a matchup against the Quinlan Ford Lady Panthers Friday, Dec. 29, at Bullard High School’s Panther Gymnasium.

Throughout the contest, the home team Bullard squad held the upper hand, capitalizing on several key offensive opportunities, allowing the team to defeat Quinlan Ford, 45-18.

Leading the way to victory for Bullard was Jensen Shrode, netting a total of 12 points in the contest against Quinlan For, including a total of four three-pointers.

Other significant contributors for Bullard against Quinlan Ford were Jordie Martin, with 10 points, including two three-pointers; JC Baird, with nine points; Keili Richmond, with four points; Caitlin Colston, with three points; Callaway Taylor, with two points; and Kyndle Schmidt, with two points.

The second contest in the team’s recent five-game stretch saw the Bullard Lady Panther junior varsity basketball team hosting a battle against the visiting Woden Lady Eagles Saturday, Dec. 30, at Panther Gymnasium.

The Lady Panthers and Lady Eagles put on a showcase featuring two teams with solid offensive and defensive schemes, as Bullard and Woden ended regulation tied, 29-29.

In the extra frame of free basketball, the home team Lady Panthers prowled their way ahead of the competition, claiming the overtime victory against Woden, 38-35.

The Lady Panthers were led to victory against the Lady Eagles by the strong offensive effort of Richmond, netting a total of 13 points in the game.

Other significant contributors for Bullard against Woden included Martin, with 10 points, including two three-pointers; Baird, with six points, including two three-pointers; Shrode, with six points; and Colston, with three points.

Bullard Lady Panthers (JV) 41, Gilmer Lady Buckeyes 30, FINAL

In the third game of its recent stretch of contests, the Bullard Lady Panther junior varsity basketball squad loaded the bus and traveled for its first District 15-4A matchup against the Gilmer Lady Buckeyes Friday, Jan. 5, at Gilmer High School.

The Lady Panthers began the district battle with a strong offensive push, allowing the team to never look back, as Bullard claimed the district win against Gilmer, 41-30.

Richmond was the leader of the prowl for the Lady Panthers against the Lady Buckeyes, collecting a total of 15 points in the district competition.

Other significant contributors for Bullard against Gilmer included Shrode, with eight points; Beverly Howard, with seven points; JC Baird, with six points; and Martin, with five points.

Bullard Lady Panthers (JV) 31, Chapel Hill Lady Bulldogs 22, FINAL

With a 3-0 streak added to their record, the Bullard Lady Panther junior varsity basketball team got on the bus once again, this time traveling to compete in the Brownsboro Basketball Tournament, held Saturday, Jan. 6, at Brownsboro High School.

In the first round of the Brownsboro Tournament, the Lady Panthers were matched up against the Chapel Hill Lady Bulldogs.

Thanks to a strong offensive prowl throughout the contest, the Lady Panthers were able to scratch and claw their way to the victory over Chapel Hill, 31-22.

The Lady Panther duo of Shrode and Richmond pushed the Lady Panther offense past the Lady Bulldogs in the contest, with both players collecting 10 points each.

Other significant contributors for Bullard against Chapel Hill included Martin, with six points; Schmidt, with four points; and Baird, with one point.

After the victory over Chapel Hill in the first round of the Brownsboro Basketball Tourament, the Bullard Lady Panther junior varsity basketball team found its way into the tournament’s championship game against the host team, the Brownsboro Lady Bears.

Despite the slow offensive start, Bullard used an offensive-heavy performance in the second and third quarters, while holding on in the final frame to claim the victory and championship trophy against the Lady Bears, 34-17.

Richmond’s offensive stride was a catalyst for the Lady Panthers en route to their championship victory, leading her team with 16 points.

Other significant contributors for Bullard against Brownsboro in the championship game included Martin, with 13 points, including three three-pointers; Shrode, with three points; and Schmidt, with two points.

Currently, the Bullard Lady Panther junior varsity basketball team holds an overall record of 15-4.

“This team has actually won eight games in a row,” said Chris Hightower, Bullard Lady Panther junior varsity basketball head coach. “Over the last month or so, they have done a great job of doing the little things necessary to win. They spend much of their time preparing our varsity on a day to day basis and have carried over that execution into their own games. I’m very proud of these girls and how they have continued to grow as a team throughout the course of the season thus far.”
