Brook Hill track and field teams compete at Regional meet, send five athletes to TAPPS State meet

Several members of the Brook Hill Guard and Lady Guard varsity track and field teams competed against the tough competition at the TAPPS 5A North Regional Track Meet, held Thursday, April 27 at Burleson High School in Burleson.

Brook Hill Guard:

The Brook Hill Guard varsity track and field team fought their way into the standings against schools from around the region at the TAPPS 5A North Regional Track Meet, placing 11th as a team with a team total score of 13 points, beating out the competition from Austin St. Dominic Savio, Austin Hyde Park, and Austin Regents.

A duo of Guard track and field athletes were able to claim qualifications for the TAPPS State Track Meet, as Jordan Day took home a third place finish at the TAPPS 5A North Regional Track Meet in the discus competition with a throw of 120’-1”, while Garrett Davis also placed third in the high jump contest with a leap of 5’-10”.

In the 100 meter dash event at the TAPPS 5A North Regional Track Meet, the Guard’s John Dixon was able to race his way down the track and collect a sixth place finish with a time of 11.81.

Jordan McGowen was the final Guard varsity track and field athlete to participate in the TAPPS 5A North Regional Track Meet event, placing seventh in the shot put contest with a throw 42’-2 ½”.

Brook Hill Lady Guard:

The Brook Hill Lady Guard varsity track and field team also had several of its members taking part in the festivities at the TAPPS 5A North Regional Track Meet, as the team tied with Carrolton Prince of Peace for a 10th place finish with a team total score of 21 points, defeating the competition from area schools such as Fort Worth Christian, Austin Hyde Park, and Southwest Christian.

Two members of the Lady Guard varsity track and field team were able to punch their tickets to the TAPPS State Meet in the shot put competition, as AD Kuechle was able to place second at the TAPPS 5A North Regional Track Meet with a throw of 31’-7”, while Sarah Nwosu took home fourth place with a throw of 30’-4”.

Grace Brasher was also able to qualify for the State meet after participating in the high jump contest at the TAPPS 5A North Regional Track Meet, where she placed second with a jump of 5’.

In the 4X200 meter relay race, the Lady Guard team of Morgan Carpenter, Sabrina Ramey, Kaitlyn Flora, and Blessing Kima teamed up their talents and speed to claim an eighth place finish with a time of 1:53.11.

Ke’Airra Christopher was able to secure a sixth place finish for the Lady Guard in the 400 meter dash event, finishing with a time of 1:00.33.

In the 1,600 meter run, Heather McLarry took home a sixth place finish for the Lady Guard with a time of 5:50.82.

Diana Ramirez was able to place eighth in the TAPPS 5A North Regional Track Meet’s 3,200 meter run event with a time of 14:02.90.

Nwosu was the final Lady Guard varsity track and field team to compete at the TAPPS 5A North Regional Track Meet, placing eighth in the discus competition with a throw of 79’-6”.

The Brook Hill Guard and Lady Guard varsity track and field team members advancing to the TAPPS State Track Meet competed at the event Friday and Saturday, May 5-6, at Baylor University’s Hart Track and Field Stadium. Results for the TAPPS State Track Meet were unable at the time of press.
