BHS track athletes secure Regional qualifications

Several members of the Bullard Panther and Lady Panther varsity track and field team returned to competition last week, as the team members competed at the District 15-4A and District 16-4A Area Track Meet, held Thursday, April 20, at Spring Hill High School in Longview.

Bullard Panthers:

The Bullard Panther varsity track and field team fought hard against the tough competition at the District 15-4A and District 16-4A Regional Track Meet, finishing in the team rankings in 11th place with a team total score of 32 points.

A total of two Panther varsity jumpers took part in the long jump contest at the event, as D’juan Martin was able to leap his way to a first place finish and qualify for the upcoming Regional Track Meet with a jump of 22’-2 ½”. Cameron Barb also qualified for Regionals with his strong jump of 21’-1”, allowing him to place fourth.

In the triple jump contest, Martin secured his second qualification for the Regional meet, finishing in second place with a jump of 43’-11 ¾”. Also competing in the event for the Panthers was Will McCowin, placing fifth with a jump of 41’9 ¼”.

McCowin was able to qualify for the Regional meet thanks to his third place finish in the high jump competition, finishing with a jump of 6’.

Martin also competed for the Panthers in the 200 meter dash at the District 15-4A and District 16-4A Regional Track Meet, placing fifth with a time of 22.69.

Bullard Lady Panthers:

The Bullard Lady Panther varsity track and field team also had a strong performance at the District 15-4A and District 16-4A Area Track Meet, finishing as the sixth place team with a team total score of 54 points, beating out the competition from Chapel Hill, Gladewater, Rusk, Spring Hill, and Center.

In the discus contest, Riley Randall was the lone Lady Panther able to prowl her way into the final standings, placing sixth with a throw of 102’-5”.

A trio of Lady Panther pole vaulters will represent the team at the upcoming Regional track meet, led by Macy Riley, finishing in first place at Regionals with a vault of 10’. Also advancing to the Regional meet will be Kami Stephens, placing second with a vault of 9’-6”, and Sadie Spencer, placing fourth with a vault of 9’.

Emily Berry raced her way around the track and crossed the finish line in second place in the 3,200 meter dash at the District 15-4A and District 16-4A Area Track Meet, qualifying for Regionals with a time of 13:06.60. Berry also qualified for the Regional meet after placing second in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 5:51.94.

The Lady Panther 4X400 relay team, including Maddie Lee, Emilee Lewis, Abby Petty, and Berry, took home a sixth place finish at the Regional meet with a time of 4:23.29.

In the 100 meter hurdles event at the District 15-4A and District 16-4A Area Track Meet, Ashlyn Meador was able to qualify for the Regional meet with her fourth place finish with a time of 16.21.

Lee was able to secure a qualification for the Regional meet thanks to her strong finish in the 400 meter dash, as she was able to prowl her way around the track and claim a second place finish with a time of 1:01.27. Also competing in the race was Lewis, finishing in sixth place with a time of 1:05.97.

Next Meet: Regionals – Friday and Saturday, April 28-29 at Texas A&M University – Commerce.
