Bullard High School will continue to be represented in all athletic competitions as a Class 4A athletics program, according to 2018-2020 classification assignments released by the Universal Interscholastic League released in early December. “This is an exciting time for communities and school districts across the state of Texas,” said Scott Callaway, Bullard ISD athletic director and Panther football head coach. “It’s always fun to watch the UIL redraw the district lines because it can either start new rivalries or rekindle the flames of some pretty historic rivalries; the redistricting mixes up the competition, which makes it really exciting.” more
Tyler Junior College will hold a final walk-in Registration Rally from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, in the Apache Rooms located in Rogers Student Center at the corner of Baxter Avenue and Lake Street. The registration sessions are open to any current, former or prospective TJC students. All participants must present a valid form of ID with identifiable photo. Advisors from all areas will be available to assist with course selection, degree plan information and advising questions. Staff will also be on-site to assist with online registration. Representatives from business services, financial aid and housing will also be on hand to assist and answer questions. more
The Bullard High School choral program has struck yet another resounding high note of success, this time after sending students to compete at the Region 21 Vocal Pre-Area Auditions, held Thursday, Nov. 16, at Hallsville High School. A program record total of 17 singers from BHS will advance to the upcoming All-Area competition, making up over 50 percent of the entire number of singers advancing from Region 21, leaving the rest of the schools making up Region 21 with just 15 vacancies. more

With the Christmas season coming and going, gifts have been given and unwrapped. This year, several families in and around the Bullard area received special gifts thanks to the Bullard High School Angel Tree project. “The response by everyone donating to the Angel Tree project this year was very overwhelming,” said Susan Paddack, BHS teacher and Angel Tree organizer. “There were a lot of blessed children through the Angel Tree, who might have not received gifts on Christmas if it wasn’t for this project. I wish I could have seen the kids’ faces on Christmas Day when they unwrapped their gifts. They were blessed, but we were definitely blessed in being able to make someone’s Christmas even more special.” more
East Texas will be one of the stops for a popular collegiate singing organization, as the Texas A&M Cadet Singers, known as “The Voice of Aggieland,” will visit the city of Tyler for an upcoming performance opportunity. The University of Texas at Tyler today announced a tuition adjustment proposal that would help fund new student success initiatives and remediate the impact of cuts to the state-funded portion of UT Tyler’s budget. The proposal, which must be approved by the UT Board of Regents, would increases tuition for the fall 2018 and fall 2019 terms. more
The Bullard High School theater program recently transported kids of all ages through one of the most recognizable works in literature, as the company wrapped up its performances of its 2017 musical event, “Willy Wonka: The Musical,” based on the popular book, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” by British author Roald Dahl. more
A motion to delay was granted in the trial of a former Brook Hill coach who was arrested and charged with Enticing a Child in 2015. Originally scheduled to take place Monday, Nov. 27, the trial of Ricky Eugene Clements, 63, also known as “Papa Ricky” to Brook Hill students and in the community, was to begin in the court of Judge Randall Rogers in the Smith County Court at Law No. 2. more
