Key Club has lock-in

The future leaders of our country, maybe even presidents, learned about our past leaders last week. Third grade students from The Brook Hill School visited the American Freedom Museum, on the Upper School campus, to learn facts about U.S. presidents. The students took notes about a particular president they had chosen but also learned interesting things about all the leaders of our country. This trip connects to a third grade project, the Invention Convention. In that project, the student has to write a research report about a famous inventor. Third grade is usually the first time the students have to write a research report of length so they need practice. The third grade teachers teach the research report techniques through writing a presidential report. Research and writing techniques are practiced and the students have fun learning about the rich history of our nation. The Bullard High School Key Club’s latest adventure consisted of a lock-in, held at the high school.

Activities that took place during the lock-in included a canned-food scavenger hunt where students were driven by adult volunteers to places around town to secure items for the school’s eighth annual food drive. Students at BHS are “canning” the vice principal’s office by attempting to fill up his office, thereby forcing him to have to move out and conduct his daily duties in the hallway. The food drive, sponsored by the BHS Student Council and Key Club ends on Friday, Feb. 3.

The students also cooked a meal for BHS teacher, Alaina Cannon, who was recently diagnosed with Lymphoma. They also made Valentine’s Day cards for the KVNE Cards for Kids project, and played dodgeball, hide and seek and watched movies.
