The Bullard chapter of Future Farmers of America is scheduled to host its annual student-labor and merchandise auction on Saturday.

The auction will feature fabricated items by Bullard students, including a handmade bench, horseshoe art, several lamp sets, barbecue pits, a “bottle tree,” fireplace accessories and fish cookers.

Last year, the auction raised roughly $27,000, nearing the record of $32,000, and FFAproprietor Monty Main said he would like to be right around that same number this year.

“I’d love to see us raise at least $20,000 again,” he said. “All the travel expenses and stuff, they’re a big deal.”

All proceeds raised at the event will be used to cover travel expenses and registration fees for the chapter for the rest of the year. Main said the chapter spent about $4,000 to send the officer team to the state FFA convention last year.

Last year, the purchase of an Easy Router System helped the chapter craft some unique items to sell at the auction. Main said the system played a big role in fabrication this year, as well.

“We used (the system) a lot,” he said. “For instance, we used it on the fireplace grate to cut out some 3D flames, so you’re actually looking through the flames to see the flames in the fireplace, which is kind of cool. All the barbecue pits were cut out on that table, as well.”

The event will also feature an American Idol-style karaoke contest with cash prizes for the top three finishers and a free barbecue dinner donated by a Bullard FFA supporter, similar to last year.

The event will be held in the Bullard Middle School Cafetorium. The karaoke contest is set to begin at 5 p.m., the dinner will begin at 5:30, and the silent auction will begin at 6:30 and is expected to wrap up between 8:30 and 9 p.m.
