BHS tennis debuts with split

VAN – The Bullard tennis team got their fall season started with a split in Van this past Saturday at the Van Sports Complex.

Bullard beat Mabank 17-4 in their matchups, while the state-power, Vandals shut the Panthers down to only one win, 16-1.

Individual winners against Mabank include Jeremey Rhodes and Hunter Wages, Cameron Sanson, Landen Beckham, Kyler Whatley, and Ross Skirlock. in boys singles:

In boys doubles action, Bullard winners were Jeremy Rhodes/Zach Wingate; Hunter Wages/Cameron Sanson; Landen Beckham/Kyler Whatley, and Cody Cole/Ross Skirlock.

Girls singles action was led by wins from Cassaundra Braaten, Ashley Kotzur, and McKenzie Clark.

In doubles play, Ladt Panthers winners were Ashley Kotzur/McKenzie Clark, and Morgan Johns/Kelsey Yetter.

The mixed doubles tandem of Cassaundra Braaten and Zach Wingate took the top spot.

“The team played really well for their first match of the season,” said second year head tennis coach, Tanya Bryant. “Mabank just dropped down to 3A so it was a really good start for us.

Bryant added “We lost to Van 16-1, but our kids played hard but they could only pull out 1 win over the Vandals.”

Next on the netters agenda will be Monday, Sept. 13 in Gladewater.
