LETTER TO THE EDITOR
The voters of the Bullard Independent School District have an election approaching on Sept. 18.
It’s a TRE, or Tax Ratifi- cation Election. The wording that we’ll see on the ballot is state-mandated wording, and is very confusing, if not misleading.
The facts on this election, however, are readily available, and very clear. By approving this TRE, we will open the door for our school district to receive over $400,000 in additional money from the state of Texas.
Additionally, the passage of this TRE will not change the district tax rate one cent. The current BISD tax rate is 1.47 per $100 valuation. With the passage of this TRE, the tax rate will remain 1.47 per $100 valuation.
Yes, there are sub-groups within that 1.47 rate that will move. One sub-group, the M&O, will increase by 13 cents.
In concurrence with that movement, the BISD will decrease the I&S rate by 13 cents. This movement is what will allow for the additional monies from the state of Texas.
Again, the tax rate stays the same, and our district benefits from almost a half million dollars in additional state funds.
Folks, as we all grow tired of big government, we as citizens rarely have the opportunity anymore to vote on an issue that will directly and positively impact our local community, right here at home, almost immediately.
BISD voters, this is that opportunity. The passage of this TRE directly benefits the children of this district and creates learning opportunities that are otherwise not available, and it cost the citizens of this district absolutely nothing.
Early voting has already begun. Please don’t pass on this chance for a positive impact at the local level, within our schools, and ultimately the chance to provide better opportunities for our children.
