Panther JV takes bark out of Bulldogs, 33-0
QUITMAN -- The Panthers junior varsity made hard work pay off this past Thursday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium with a dominating 33-0 win for Bullard over Quitman.
The Panthers (1-0), got two rushing touchdowns from Gilberto Jiminez, and another long scoring jaunt from quarterback, Blake Rutherford to jump up to a 21-0, first quarter lead
Place-kicker Santiago Escobar was 3-for-3 in PAT attempts, and upped the Bullard lead to 24-0 halftime lead with a 35-yard field goal.
Later in the game, with the Quitman crew backed up in thier own territory, Panther lineman, Stephen Spiers broke through to throw the Bulldog quarterback for a loss and a safety to wind out the scoring at 33-0 in the third period
David Roberts was noted for outstanding play in all three phases of the game, and was awarded the first Attack Team Player.
Roberts was a team captain for the varsity on Friday night and got to suit up with the varsity for his efforts.
The Attack Team Player will be a coaches decision made among all three high school teams, and the player they feel has done outstanding special teams play and honored as a team captain in Friday night’s game.
The Panthers will play their first home game on Thursday as they host Mineola to a 6:30 p.m. kickoff time at Panther Stadium.
Members of this year’s 2010 freshmen team includes J.T. Moss, Santiago Escobar, Gilberto Jimenez, Colton Price, Cameron Hallford, Justin Quick, Taylor McIntyre, Jess Wood, Jacob Wall, Rocky Greenwalt, Rodney McElroy, Josh Ritch, Kyle Hill, William Phelps, Austin Carpenter, Kris Traffenstedt, Stephen Spiers, Chris Ray, David Roberts, Jeremia Medina, and Tre Larson.
The Panthers JV will play their first home game on Thursday against Mineola at 6:30 p.m.
