Lady Panther spikers still looking for the much needed turnaround

RAIVEN WHATLEY RAIVEN WHATLEY TYLER - The Lady Panthers dittoed their previous tournament in Nacogdoches last weekend, winning the Silver Bracket consolation title with a two-game win over Marshall.

The double-elimination bracket play ended in the championship bracket with The White Oak Ladynecks stopping Robert E. Lee in two games to spoil the host’s bid for a tournament title Saturday evening in the championship bracket of the Tyler Invitational Volleyball Tournament at REL Varsity Gymnasium.

White Oak won in two games (25-14, 25-9).

In the third-place match of the championship bracket, Hallsville topped Mesquite Horn in two games while Leon beat Lindale in two games to win the consolation final.

The finals day, Gold Bracket play was held at Lee’s K Gym, the Silver Bracket took place at John Tyler High School’s Lions Den, while all Bronze bracket play was at John Tyler’s JV Gym.

KYLEE NICHOLS KYLEE NICHOLS Having lost two games and one tie after day one, the Lady Panthers played in the Silver Bracket against Henderson, Alba- Golden, Hemphill, Marshall, Athens, Irving MacArthur, and Van battled it out with Bullard.

The Lady Panthers ( ) played Arp and All Saints in a three-way match on Tuesday after press deadline.

Thursday the Lady Panthers will begin play in the three-day Brownsboro Tournament.

Pool D Play

In pool-play, Pool D started on Thursday with Mesquite Horn defeating Bullard, 25-18, 25-20. Horn then took down Pine Tree, 27- 25, 25-18. Pine Tree bested Bullard, 25-15, 25-12; in two straight before the Lady Panthers halted the losing skid with a 25-18, 25-25 tie with New Boston. Pool play ended with Mesquite Horn (3-0); Golf bracket bound Pine Tree (2-1); the Lady Panthers to the Silver Bracket going 1- 2; and New Boston (0-3) fought it out in the Bronze bracket..

Silver Bracket

Bullard beat Marshall in the consolation final, 25-18, 28-26. Earning all-tournament honors for Bullard was Raiven Whatley.

Irving MacArthur took top honors in the Silver Bracket by outlasting Alba-Golden in three games, 25-22, 21-25, 25-22, and Van topped Henderson in two games for third place.Kylee Nichols, Ashlee Shidler, Chelsea Foreman, Cassaundra Braaten, Chelsie Southerland, Nikki Fuller, were all cited for strong play up front and service excellence.
