Kick off is set for 2 p.m. (COURTESY PHOTO WOLF WHITAKER) JACKSONVILLE -- Lon Morris College played football for the first time in 70 years on Saturday, and returned to the gridiron in successful fashion.

The Bearcats took a 35-0 lead at the halftime intermission and cruised in the second half for a 49-0 victory against Monterrey Tech Borregos, which is located in Mexico City, at the Tomato Bowl.

Lon Morris running back Brandon Whitaker scored on the first play of the game with a 60-yard run.

Then Bearcats defenders Buck McCullough and Kelvin Tomlinson returned interceptions for touchdowns.

The 21-0 lead came with 11:18 remaining in the opening quarter and with Lon Morris having run only one offensive play.

Lon Morris quarterback Kyle Stacy, a Jacksonville High School graduate, returned to his old stomping grounds to complete 9 of 13 passes 152 yards and a touchdown

Stacy connected with running back Levon Castillo for a 61-yard touchdown to make the score 35-0 with 1:58 left in the first half.

quarter.

The Borregos (Rams) threatened
twice in the first half on offense, but
were turned away on downs the first
time and an interception in the end
zone by Bearcats defensive back
Deandre’ Bonner the second time.
Lon Morris was plagued in the
penalty department, committing seven
fouls for 77 yards in the first half and
11 for 112 in the game.
The Bearcats play host to Arkansas
Baptist at 2 p.m. Saturday.
