Poker Run to benefit MDA Sept. 4
FLINT — The Lake Palestine Poker Run, an annual event that benefits Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Jerry Kids, is scheduled for Sept. 4.
Boaters from across East Texas are expected to participate in the day-long, family event.
Participants are asked to register between noon and 2 p.m. Entry fees apply.
The game is scheduled to begin at 1. Boaters must locate each of the five designated pick-up points marked on hand-out maps.
At each of the designated point, one sealed poker card will be collected for each hand purchased.
Boats have until 5 p.m. to return to The Villages Marina with all poker cards.
Starting at 5, everyone’s cards will be revealed. Those with the best hands will win cash and prizes.
H&W Marine is also offering a $250 bonus to the winner if the boat in which they are participating was purchased from the company in the last two years.
In a tie, the winner will be decided by drawing cards, and the highest card wins. Donated prizes will also be awarded.
The check for funds raised at the event will be presented to MDA during a telethon on Sept. 6.
The 2010 Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon is the 45th annual Labor Day show. It will be broadcast on 190 “Love Network” stations across the country and can be seen at mda.com.
Locally, it will be broadcast on KETK at 7:40 a.m.
The telethon is the singlemost important fund-raising event for MDA. Funds raised help the association fight more than 40 neuromuscular diseases.
This year’s Poker Run is sponsored by H&W Marine, Gander Mtn., The Villages Marina, Grainger, David Archer and many other area businesses and volunteers.
