District Court Judge Jack Skeen set bond at $350,000 for a former Bullard police officer charged with sexual assault of a child.

Steven Wayne Morris, 27, 716 W. Tyler St., was arrested on Aug. 19 after a months-long investigation by the Texas Rangers, the lead investigative arm of the state’s Department of Public Safety.

Morris had been with the Bullard Police Department for more than two years before his termination in June.

He was suspended in May with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.

According to reports, he confessed to having sexual relationship with a Bullard High School student.

Morris remained in the Smith County Jail on Monday. Sexual assault of a child is a second-degree felony.
