However, Grace Community rallied from down two games to knock off Brook Hill in five games to give the Lady Cougars a season-opening win.

Grace won 23-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-14, 16-14.

After Winona cancelled the next Brook Hill match up, the Lady Guard found themselves entertaining the same Lady Cougars.

This time with not as much success however, losing by scores of 25-12, 25-19, and 25-16.

Grace Community (7-1), were led by 23 assists by Kayla Konon, while Katie Gusa added 11 kills and Emery Cannon and Ema Yates added seven kills apiece.

Brook Hill got three kills and six digs from Carley Howard, while Amy Jo Teague added three kills and four digs.

Alyssa Eden and Mary Caroline Selden added two kills each, while Selden made eight digs, and seven service points.

“I was really pleased with the effort in the second game,” said first year Brook Hill volleyball coach, Clint Cover. “We just don’t have that one big person upfront that we can llok to to put things away for us so we are going to have to scramble, and hustle for every point we get.

“We have got the potential to be really good but I am still trying to get a feel for the rotation, and what combonations work the best.

“But that will come with time.” Cover added, “and we have got a tough pre-district schedule that should put us to the test and hopefully playing quality teams we will improve by playing them and make a run when district play rolls araound.”

Brook Hill (0-2), will play in the Eustace Tournament beginning on Thursday.

Brook Hill plays at All Saints, Thur., Aug. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
