Colorado Fly-fishing can be addicting
East Texas born, Matt Smith, and former T.K. Gorman all-state basketball player, recently landed record size trout while working on a feature story for the Gunnison Times in Gunnison, Colorado. Smith has landed four trout that would qualify for the Colorado Master’s Honor Roll. (Courtesy Photo by Danielle Johnson)
GUNNISON, CO. - For those of you thinking about that last minute summer run before school starts, and you tend to wet a hook now and then, there is no time like the present to be fly-fishing in Colorado.
Ask a fly-fisherman, and it matters little where you are.....fly-fishing is an outdoorsman’s heaven even if it’s not in the Rockies of Colorado..
Having recently lost a son from competitive sports to the rippling waves and calm lakes of southwestern Colorado, an occasional picture, as seen at left, pops up on facebook so I know he lives!
It will make you want to book to Gunnison, or just head to the mountains for any ol’ spring and there are bound to be trout of all species and colors somewhere in your midst.
If by chance you happen to venture out Colorado way and get in the Gunnison area, there is a sports and news writer for the Gunnison Times who has my same last name who has fallin’ deep into the fly-fishing web of beautiful scenic trips and fish fights.
Tough life, but that’s my boy! Check out the Almont Resort when you head up that way.
