Oldest of three Q-Backing McCown’s may have been the smartest of throwing trio

Jacksonville native, Randy McCown, is part of an elite group that few can lay claim to.
Randy, along with current NFL quarterbacks, Josh and Luke, make it a trio of brothers who have been starting quarterbacks in days gone by, in college.
Ask former Jacksonville head football guru, Danny Long and now Tyler ISD Athletic Director.
“Randy just wasn’t blessed with his dads height, but out of the three brothers, I’d have to say Randy was probably the smartest in high school of the three,” Long added laughing, “After that, it was just great watching these young men mature into such prominent figures in the future of football in East Texas.”

A bumpy road began Randy’s career, which were some of McCown’s points made while speaking to the crowd at the recent KTBB’s Scholastic All-Star banquet. McCown talked about how daily scripture and consistent hardwork made son, Randy, a standout.
Sharing a few Aggie war battles, ending in either funny coincidence or a point proven, McCown made several keys points with the 22 scholarship honorees and their families.
“These kids have got the world ahead of them, and I just kind of give them the heads-up on things ahead,” said McCown, in an interview before the program. “Right now, everything has gone their way and they are going from big fish in a small pond, but that is going to change real quick, and just share a few words of encouragement.”
Randy, after all-state years in football and basketball, was also a Reebok All American in football, and ranked the top signal-caller in Texas during his senior season.
In 1997, McCown became the starting quarterback for the Aggies, until 1999, leading his team to the Big South title in ’97 and ’98.
The elder of three rocket-arms for the Jacksonville Indians, Randy got his degree in Agricultural Development and is owner of Cross Cut Hardwoods and M&H Crates.
Randy is still involved with the upcoming McCown Passing Camp, now in the eighth year of fine-tuning East Texas quarterbacks.
