Bullard road work to begin

The Texas Department of Transportation will soon seal coat roadways in and around Bullard.

Work should begin on or around Wednesday, June 9, on F.M. 2493 (Houston Street) in the Bullard area, according to Larry Krantz, public information officer, Texas Department of Transportation, Tyler District.

“TxDOT forces throughout the eight-county Tyler District have been working to make the necessary repairs in preparation for this summer’s ‘District-Wide Seal Coat’ program, which starts each year in June and lasts into September,” Krantz said.

During the program, about 300 miles of Tyler District roadways will receive a seal coat, which waterproofs the roadway surface with a thin coat of asphaltic oil, then covers that oil with lightweight gravel.

In many cases, seal-coating a repaired roadway can add seven years or more to a roadway’s useful life – depending largely on traffic — before crews need to return to perform more work.

As with all work on our roadways, it’s best to take an alternate route while crews are applying a seal coat, if for no other reason than to avoid the long delays that lane closures always cause.
