Guard baseball puts four on all-state list; Pirtle district MVP

WACO The state runner up, and dis trict champion, Brook Hill Guard, domi nated the TAPPS 3 3A All District teams recently released.

The Guard also placed four players on the TAPPS Division III all state teams, after a loss in the finals to Waco Reicher.

“We had a great year and just came up one game short, but I could not be any prouder of these guys and effort they gave,” said Guard head coach, Vince Veazey. “Travis (Pirtle) had a great year, after his tear through district and in the playoffs is certainly deserving of the awards he has received, as have all the players.”

Guard second baseman, Travis Pirtle won the district Most Valuable Player award, with a hefty .613 batting average in league play.

The sophomore, Pirtle, was also named second team, all state.

Pirtle had three walk off hits late in the season, two of which won playoff games.

Joining Pirtle with first team kudos inl cudes seniors, Jake Beam and Yasu Ohmukia.

Beam was also a first team pick for the All State squad.

Sophomore shortstop, J.B. Moss was a first team on both the district list and the all staters roster.

Guard first baseman, A.J. Minter, was named to the second team, all state along with Pirtle.

Rounding out the first team, all district honorees, include Cody Bryant and Jake Nash.

Second team selections for The Guard are Tyler Burton and Drew Robertson.

The Guard finished out the year with a 23 7 record, and lost only the two seniors, Beam and Ohmukai.

“We have a nucleus coming back next season, so I’m going to enjoy the season for a few weeks, and then start getting ready for next year,” said Veasey.
