The Belles took home two first place trophies in the small team division for their pom routine, “Ease On Down the Road” and their novelty routine “Blue Jeans.” They also received first runner-up honors for their military routine “Samurai.” Additionally, they won sweepstakes for scoring a 90 and above on every routine entered, a “Precision Merit Award” and first runner-up Grand Champion” in the small team division.

This is the first time for the Bullard Belles to compete as it is the first year of the Bullard Belles Drill Team. The drill team and dance program was approved by the BISD school board in the spring of 2009.

BHS Drill Team Director Shelly Johnston was the drill team director of the First Ladies at Whitehouse High School for 13 years. She relocated to Bullard High School for the opportunity to start a brand new program.

“It has been a wonderful experience for me personally to have the opportunity to start a program and challenge myself,” Johnson said. “I have been very fortunate to have a supportive administrative staff and a community that appreciates the new program.”

Drill Team tryouts for the 2010-2011 school year were Friday, April 16. Johnston said she had more than 45 students who planned to tryout for the team.
