Langston bat racks up six runs; Panthers avenge Bulldog losses

BULLARD – The Bullard Panthers remain unbeaten in league play, after a 14-7 win over Chapel Hill last week.

The win was a bit of sweet revenge as the Bulldogs beat Bullard twice last year in district play.

Bullard catcher, Steve Langston went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in six runs, as Bullard topped Chapel Hill in their first match up this year.

The bats were hot from the get-go, as Langston and Trevor Rumbelow added an RBI-single each, and set up Kirk Bryant’s triple and a 5-0 lead.

‘Peck’ Langston then added another two-RBI single, to built a 10-0 lead after two innings.

The Bulldogs fought back with four runs, as losing pitcher Troy Stanley had an RBI single, as did Cale Randall, and a 10-4 score.

Langston’s two-RBI triple highlighted a three run answer and a 13-4 contest.

After the game, the Bullard catcher was glad to have come through for the team.

“It felt really good out there tonight, and both pitchers were a little easier to catch that when Nick pitches,” Langston said. “No offense to our other pitchers, because we have a great staff, it’s just if you miss a call with Nick, you can really be a sore boy the next day,” said the catcher who has gunned down all but one attempted base thief on the year.

“And before the game, I kinda dedicated the game to my grandmother, too,”the two-sport all-district performer added, with a tear in his eye.

While not on the mound, Nick Rumbelow manned up at third base, with two major league stops and added a 3- for-3 and four RBI’s.

Tanner Bailey took the win on the mound after some nifty relief work by Taft Rose, coming on in the fourth inning. The two pitchers combined for 11 strike outs, and walked only two.

Shortstop, Koby Greene is currently leading the district in on-base percentage, and fittingly thwarted another small Bulldog rally, with a double-play.

Blake Pierson and Josh Banda had RBI-doubles for the Bulldogs, as they slip to 0-4 in league play.

Bullard will put their undefeated district mark on the line next Tuesday, when they travel to Spring Hill for a match up of the league, unbeaten.
