Kilgore festival set
Last October, Kilgore Film Festival attendees were treated to the only local showings of what turned out to be one of the most talked about films following the academy awards.
“The Hurt Locker” was the upset winner for best picture and “The Cove” won in the best documentary category. Both films received their first showing in the area, as part of the Kilgore Fall Festival line-up. The Spring Festival line-up also looks impressive enough to keep the local festivals’ record going. Just as with “The Hurt Locker” last fall, the Kilgore Film Festival has picked another potential academy award winner to open its spring event.
The Kilgore Film Festival will officially open Wednesday April 14 with “The Last Station,” a film depicting the life of Leo Tolstoy. In conjunction with the festival, the theater will once again provide a catered reception as part of the openingnight activities. Opening night will also feature a brief discussion about films included in the festival. The discussion will include reviews of the films by local film buffs Kathy Housby and John Dodd.
Show times for the three week festival are 4:30 .pm. and 7:30 p.m. on weeknights, with the exception of opening night when there will be no matinee. Saturday and Sunday show times are 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Additional information is available from the theater at (903) 983-1249. The 4 Star Cinema is located on Highway 259 in Kilgore. Ticket prices are $7 general admission; $6 ages 60 and older; $40 series pass. The 4 Star Cinema is located on Highway 259 in Kilgore.
