I always hear my friends, along with myself, saying we will never use the classes that we take in high school in the real world.

Actually, pretty much every teenager that I know says that. Seriously, who needs calculus, world history or English III?

As a junior, my thoughts on school have begun to change. Now that I am getting closer and closer to my senior year and actually starting to decide what I want to do the rest of my life, I’m starting to take school more seriously. I study and come in for help when I need it.

Among the dreaded eight classes a day, there is one that excites me. This year, Health Science Technology was added. It teaches you about all the systems of the body and medical terminology and other medical related things. I want to be an ER surgeon so this class gives me the opportunity to experience some of the things I will see in college.

As a senior, I will be taking the second course of the program. It will be a two period class that includes going to hospitals and clinics to help and get involved in real life situations. The next year there will be a third course offered. It will consist of training programs for certain medical careers. Although I won’t be able to take the third year, the clinics will definitely help me decide if the medical occupation is really where I want to be.

The next time I hear my friends or I think about complaining about all the boring stuff we learn in school, I’ll remember that some classes can help you prepare for the rest of your life.
