(Banner Staff Photo by Doc Smith) It is generally accepted that Bullard is going to grow as a community.

The Bullard Independent School District population has been steadily increasing for years, initial census statistics clearly indicate a substantially larger city population since the 2000 U.S. Census, and several businesses have been inquiring about available property.

City officials hope to make sure the direction of the growth will benefit every citizen, so a planning committee is being formed to help established goals to that end.

Bullard City Manager Larry Morgan said committee members represent “people of all walks of life,” and that the initial meeting was designed to “get everybody together.”

“What I expected to get out of the meeting was a sense of the direction we’re going,” Morgan said. “I think we accomplished that.”

The agenda included future plans regarding transportation (and city roadways), open spaces, sewer treatment and water supply, and more.

Eric Davis, an independant consultant, featured a power-point presentation to help provide the committee with guidance.

“This is part of progressing as a growing city,” said Bullard Mayor Teresa Adams-Wilks. “It’s what our city needs to do so we’ll have direction.”

Morgan said future planning needs to include not just what might be around the corner, but what to expect in three, five and 10 years down the road.

“All it’s going to take,” Morgan said of a potential growth spurt, “is the right business moving into Bullard.”

That may include a large residential or apartment complex or it could involve a commercial or industrial enterprise.
