LINDALE – Brook Hill treked to the Robbie Surrat Memorial Tournament in Lindale this past weekend, and came out with a 2-2 record against teams in much bigger UIL classification schools.

On Thursday, the Guard started off with a 6-1 setback at the hands of Class 4A power, Paris.

The Guard turned things around in the second game of the day, beating Trimble Tech of Fort Worth, 4-2, behind the arm and bat of Jake Beam.

Beam went 2-for3 at the plate, with a homerun.

Friday started off good with a 15-6 win over Rains, as Cody Bryant picked up the win, on the mound.

A.J. Minter slammed a solo homer in the first inning, and J.B. Moss added a round-tripper with one on base in the four run, third inning. Beam also added a double in the game.

The score was not indicative of the final score, when Lindale beat Brook Hill 10-2.

Jared Dickey took the hard-luck loss in the game, as a very inconsistent strike zone left Lindale with far too many free bases for the sophomore to have pitched such a good game, according to head coach, Vince Veazey.

“Jared pitched a great game, we just didn’t get the calls we thought we should be getting,” Veazey said in frustration. “Jared made great pitches that were balls for Lindale, and they made the same pitches balls for us, and it was really frustrating for Jared to work so hard and not get the calls.”

“But there were some really good teams, and we hung right there with them, and Jake Beam had a great tournament for us again,” Veazey said in closing.

Against the Eagles, Minter slapped a double, for the lone Brook Hill extra base hit.

Justin Copeland’s two-run homer in the three-run Eagle fourth inning would be all the insurance Lindale would need.

Brook Hill return to action on Friday, when they travel to Tyler to play John Tyler at Mike Carter Field, with a 6 p.m. first pitch slated.
