(Banner Staff Photo by Don Treul) The Bullard Volunteer Fire Department responded to an emergency call at 11:57 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, regarding a fire at an abandoned structure.

Four Bullard VFD units and one Lake Palestine East VFD unit briefly battled a fire at a mobile home on San Marcus Street in the Shady Brook Addition about eight miles west of Bullard.

The landowner, LaRhonda Hayles said she hired someone to remove an abandoned mobile home on the property. According to Lt. Jasper Nickelbur of the Lake Palestine VFD, the fire was a result of a “controlled burn that got out of control.”

There were no reported injuries. What was left of the structure was competely destroyed, and some brush immediately surrounding the area was burned. There was no report of any other structures that were damaged.
