POLLOK – The Brook Hill Guard got a combined three-hitter in the championship game from Drew Robertson and Jared Dickey, as Brook Hill beat Shelbyville, 9-2, to to take the top spot in the win over Shelbyville for the championship of the Polk Oil Classic at Pollock High School.

It was a pool tournament, and Brook Hill (6-2) found themselves in a three way tie with a 2-1 record, but won the tie breaker of -fewest runs allowed- to advance to the championship game.

Tourney MVP Cody Bryant won the semifinals game on the mound, with a two-hitter, as Brook Hill scored a 12- 3 win over Trinity. Bryant struckout eight, picking up his second win on the mound for the season..

Sophomore shortstop, J.B. Moss was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, three runs scored, and three stolen bases in the Trinity win. Moss and Jake Beam each had doubles. Brook Hill’s Cody Bryant was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

Brook Hill won their first game, 10-5 over Garrison, before losing to the host team, Pollock, 5-4.

“We have a group of guys who figured out it doesn’t matter if you’re a senior or freshman; when their number was called, they stepped up to help the team,” saidhead coach, Vince Veazey. “There is always room for improvement, but I’m proud how the boys have responded to the challenges thus far.”
