Smiths celebrate 67th anniversary

MR. & MRS. ROBERT LEE SMITH MR. & MRS. ROBERT LEE SMITH Robert Lee (Bob) Smith and his wife, Minnie Lee Smith will be celebrating their 67th wedding anniversary on Sunday, March 14.

The couple were married by the Justice-of-the-Peace in Shreveport, Louis., March 14, 1942.

There will be a reception for the Smiths on Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Southern Oaks Baptist Church reception room.

Robert is a World War II veteran and was among the survivors in the Normandy invasion and spent his tour of duty in France. Robert is a retiree from Tyler Packing Company, where he worked for 33 years as production foreman after moving around four states serving in the same capacity.

Minnie has been a housewife while raising three boys, Kenneth Wayne Smith (66) of Van, Danny Bob Smith (62) of Tyler, and Mickey Don Smith (53) of Bullard.

Their sons gave the Smiths eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

The Smiths are charter member of Southern Oaks Baptist Church where the congregation had their first church meetings in the Smith’s home. Robert is a charter-deacon at the church and was also the sports coordinator for the church several years ago, coaching his church team to state and national titles in softball.
