Guard beats W’Boro; weather halts tourney
PITTSBURG – The Brook Hill Guard got off to a great start in the Pittsburg Tournament on Thursday, pounding out 13 hits in a win over Winnsboro. However, inclimate weather cancelled the remaining games, as Brook Hill improves to 4-1 with the solo win, over the past weekend.
Guard senior, Jake Beam used his arm and his stick, to lead to the 12-6 win over Winnsboro on Thursday afternoon. His bat spoke first, with a first inning, two-run homer.
Beam then pitched the entire game, to improve to 3-0 on the year, on the mound.
A.J. Minter was 4-for-4, with two RBI’s, and Beam was perfect at the plate, going 3- for-3, with the homer and four RBI’s. Catcher, Cody Bryant added a two-RBI double for the Guard.
Beam struck out five, while a solid defensive effort kept Winnsboro scoreless until the final inning.
The game was shortened, due to the time limit, in winning the opening round action of the tournament.
Brook Hill will next entertain East Texas Christian Academy, at Herrington Field on Tuesday, at 5 p.m.
