Bullard students and educators participated in the Scripps National Spelling Bee at the Tyler Public Library. Maria Chroneos, also an eighth-grade student, from Moore Magnet School in Tyler was the champion. She will participate in the Regional Spelling Bee March 20 in Dallas on. In the event Chroneos is unable to attend the regional meet, Sanson would be eligible to take her place.

Also participating in the National Spelling Bee from Bullard were Clay Rowden, a sixth-grade student from Bullard Intermediate School who tied for fifth place; and Sarah Campbell, a fifthgrade student from Bullard Intermediate School who tied for seventh place.

Amy Bickerstaff was the BISD district coordinator; Sheila Bishop was the Smith County Spelling Bee Coordinator; and Bullard Elementary teacher Cindy Browning prepared the reception cake.
