Bullard students exhibit champion hogs at show

Joseph Burks of Bullard FFA from Bullard, captured the Breed Champion Award with his 268 pound hog, Sampson, at the Junior Market Barrow Show selected Chester White Breed Champions Wednesday, Feb. 17, during the 2010 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.

Burks said he would like to attend Texas A&M University and become an agricultural education teacher.

Dixie Taylor, also from Bullard and a member of the Bullard FFA, exhibited the Reserve Breed Champion with her 270-pound hog, “Hill Billy.” Taylor said she enjoys showing pigs every chance she gets.

This year, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo has committed $8.1 million to education. The amount represents scholarships, grants, endowments, junior livestock auctions, Calf Scramble program and show premiums paid to youth in the state of Texas. It brings the total amount that the organization has committed since the inception of the Scholarship Fund in 1984 to more than $96 million.
