Defense by committee key to 54-33 district win over Tatum Lady Eagles on the road

TATUM - The Lady Panthers maintained another stout defensive effort, and converted Tatum turnovers into many breakaway baskets, in a 54-33 win over Tatum last week, at Eagle Gymnasium.

“It was just another great defensive effort by the entire team,” said BHS head coach, Greg Gay. “We never let up with the intensity, and the defense again created a lot of breakaway baskets for Christina (Hatten) and a few other easy baskets for us.”

Holding a 12-5 lead after one period, Hatten dropped in her first of two 3-pointers in the game, followed up by a Minta Spears long-bomb for 3-points, led to a 28-12 halftime advantage.

Spears was held to 11 points, but had a double double with 11 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds.

The junior varsity did not fare as well, dropping their first district loss to the Lady Eagles, 29-21 rebounds. Kylee Nichols led the Lady Panthers in scoring, with 12 points in a losing effort.

The Lady Panthers played Chapel Hill at Home after press deadline. The next district game is at Spring Hill on Friday night with the JV girls starting at 4 p.m.
