Guard takes down Grace Community
TYLER - Grace Community never could catch up after falling behind 15-4, in a Apache Bracket championship semifinal win over Grace Community, 52- 44 on Tuesday night at TJC’s Wagstaff Gymnaisum
The Guard shot 20-40 from the field and made good on 12-of-18 free throws to setup the all- Bullard bragging rights for a year in the finals.
Twas another night of the hardwood gazelle, Jeremey Chappelle having his way scoring, rebounding, and playing a lot of point guard.
Wherever he played, Chappelle was on-target again with an assortment of short-range jumpers, and slashes through the lane for a game-high, 24-points. The senior standout added 13 rebounds.
“Jeremey (Chappelle) had a maybe the best allround game of the season so far tonight,” coach Wally Dawkins said after the semifinal win.
Brook Hill did a good job of holding thier leading scorer, Eric DeRoo of Grace to only two-points after a 30-point night in a upset win over Arp in game one.
Grace pulled within six, 45-39, with 4:06 remaining, before Chappelle responded with an assist to Courtney Thomas inside and a pull-up jumper to get the lead back to 10 points.
Brook Hill (12-3), added on 11-points at the charity stripe.
Tyler Baker, and Austin Langemeier tossed in eightpoints apiece to back ‘Chap’, while the Clardy twins, (John and Luke), played significant roles with rebounds and blocked shots.
Grace hit only 17-of-42 shots but a shortage of 4- for-8 from the freethrow line proved to be a factor after the game was done.
Craig Schambach nailed three, 3-pointers and scored 18 points for the Cougars (10-6).
There is going to be a showdown in the next round as Bullard basketball history is made when the two Bullard school (BHS and TBHS) go head-tohead for the Apache Division championship.
