This vacation couldn’t be any longer — two weeks off and bored as can be.
I had fun and did stuff every day, but I think I was missing school too much. I love missing school and not doing any work and this time was crazy. Christmas and New Year’s Day were the main holidays during our break. I didn’t get to celebrate Christmas on the 25th, because dad wasn’t going to be home, so we did our Christmas on the 23rd. It was nice opening them early, but I wish I could have had that feeling of waking up on the 25th and seeing presents laid out and the stockings stuffed.
I got a lot that I wanted for Christmas and I couldn’t be happier. I think my sister Kahla’s gift was the best gift of all. How cool is it to get a car or Christmas. It’s about time she got one though; she has been waiting forever.
New Year’s Eve was another holiday that was crazy. That’s one holiday you never forget. I stayed up all night for no reason — just hanging out with friends and I had fun doing it. We are now in 2010 which is another decade and in double digits; I think it’s crazy. Where did the time go?
A lot of us needed this break. I know the teachers did. You could tell it in their faces how much they wanted to leave. They didn’t get much of a break though, because they had to grade the exams and get their lesson plans when we returned to school. I’m excited and not at the same time to go back to school. I don’t think we will have another break like this until March and that’s a long time from now. I know when I get back I will probably be wishing that I was still on Christmas break and not begging to go to school.
I’m glad its 2010 though. I’ve been waiting for this year and it’s finally here. What I’m really excited for is February, March, June and August. The best part of being in band is in February. We go to solo and ensemble to compete on getting ratings from one to four (with one being the best). You can compete in groups, solos or even both, and that’s one reason I’m in band. March is spring break — who is not excited for that? In June, the band goes to Disney World for a band trip and June will also be tryouts for state solo and ensemble. Then in August — this is the month I’m really excited about — it is my 16th birthday and we get to start band camp. I love band camp when we don’t do anything but teach.
In all, though, I think this was a good break. Everybody needed it. It is going to be harder when we’re back in school. The TAKS test is a few months away and teachers and going to throw work at us every day. But they are just doing their job on helping us pass the tests. I enjoyed my break and can’t wait for another.
