Phillips to run for Smith County Clerk
KAREN PHILLIPS
Karen Phillips announced this week her candidacy for Smith County Clerk on the 2010 March Republican Primary ballot.
“The County Clerk’s office is one that serves all of the citizens of Smith County at some point in their lives, and it is important that each individual be treated in an efficient and respectful manner,” Phillips said. “I intend to create an environment that is service oriented and customer friendly because government should always have a citizens first attitude.” Phillips has 18 years of clerical experience which she said she feels has prepared her to continue the transformation of the County Clerk’s office into 21st century technology. Her forcus will be to “lead the office with a proactive records system.” She said she also would like to implement a full implementation of the Commissioners Court’s Roadmap Business Plan.
She and her husband have been married 32 years and they have two adult sons. She was born and raised in Tyler and has lived in the city all but three years.
“The principles that guide me stem from my biblical values and my parents who taught me to ‘work as unto the Lord,’” she said. “This announcement comes as the result of much thought and prayer, and I look forward to the opportunity to serve the citizens of Smith County.”
