Howard, Lawson, Escobar named to 17-3A All-District first squad honors
DANIEL HOWARD FIRST TEAM WR/DB
GILMER – As expected, the state champion Gilmer Buckeyes dominated the recently released 2009 District 17-3A All- District teams.
Bullard’s standout twoway starter Daniel Howard earned first team honors, as both wide receiver and defensive back in his senior campaign.
Panthers Sydney Lawson was first team pick as utility player, and Escobar Santiago earned specialist honors.
Senior quarterback Marquez Franklin earned a second team nod as quarterback, after playing the position for the first time ever this season. Sammy Ferrara made a second team pick as offensive line, and also got an honorable mention bid defensively.
Bullard honorable mention kudos were numerous, led by two-way player David French at tight end and defensive end. Defensive backs Hunter Skelton and Kirk Bryant, along with linebacker’s D.J. Diduch and Dalton Simonek, linemen JaKory Hunter, Eric Duffy, and Ferrara at defensive tackle, were honored on defense.

Offensively, French was joined by wide receiver Brandon Beavers and offensive lineman Jeremey Wellmaker.
The Buckeyes took all but one of the league superlatives honors, led by the District MVP, Darian ‘Stump’ Godfrey, the quarterback for Gilmer. Gilmer’s Tristen Holt was the offensive MVP, and teammates Braylan Webb and Mikey Wilson shared the oefensive MVP honors.
Chapel Hill’s Colton Morehead was defensive Newcomer and Buckeye sophomore, Luke Turner was the Newcomer for the defensive superlatives.
Bullard suffered through a tough season with a 1-9 record, and the lone win against Troup.
Gilmer’s Darian ‘Stump’ Godfrey was the league MVP.
