BULLARD - Lady Panthers 6’1 post, Kayla Welling, rejected a last-second attempt at overtime to preserve a 53-51 win over Class 4A Lufkin at Panther gymnasium last Tuesday night.

Bullard, multi-positioned starter, Christina Hatten had a great allround game leading all scorers with 17 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and four assists.

It was the final bucket by Ashley Ricci that proved to be the difference maker in the game.

Sophomore guard, Minta Spears hit her first to three treys in the game to make it a 9-4 game, leading to a 12-6 lead after one period for Bullard.

The purple-and-gold Panthers from down South, outscored Bullard 30-21 in the second half to have the game decided by the big block inside by Welling.

Chaun Williams had a game-high 19 points to lead Lufkin in their setback

The junior varsity game was just as thrilling, as Bullard won in overtime, 48-45.

Trailing by one point after battling back, Bullard got two free-throws from Chelsea Foreman to take the 46-45 lead.

Savannah Pinion added on a steal and a bucket just before the buzzer, in the 48-45 nail-biter.

“It was a little too close to my liking, but it was a win,” said BHS head coach, Greg Gay. “We let them work their way back into the game in the second half.”

The Lady Panthers opened play in the McDonald’s All Star invitational in Bryan against Somerville.
