Guard forfeits game down; still claims consolation in Tatum

TATUM - After rescheduling to play in Tatum after a snub from the Sabine tournament at mid-week, Brook Hill sacrificed an opening round loss to Marshall, due to finals at school on Thursday.
On Friday, The Guard (10-3), began a three-game winning run to the consolation trophy at the Tatum Eagle’s and Academy Sports and Outdoors, 2009 Holiday Hoopfest at Eagle Coliseum this past weekend.
Replacing Daingerfield, which was in the football state playoffs, Brook Hill took down Spring Hill 45- 32, before earning the consolation final with a 48-33 win over Kilgore.

Mason Spradlin scored 17 points in each of the games for Brook Hill, busting two, 3-pointers in each win.
Brook Hill, all-tournament selection, Jeremey Chappelle scored a game-high 18 points, followed by sophomore Austin Langemeir with 11 points in a convincing 60-36 win for the trophy over Diboll.
The win was head coach Wally Dawkin’s 599th career win.
A Brook Hill win against Chapel Hill at 1:30 on Monday at the TJC Wagstaff Holiday Classic in the first round would be sweet in more ways than one for Dawkins.
Dawkins could possibly pick up the milestone 600-mark against the Bulldogs, which was Dawkins first East Texas head coaching job before moving on to Whitehouse and Brook Hill.
Brook Hill improves to 10-3 while still having to forfeit the tourney opener.
