(Banner Staff Photo by Doc Smith) The Bullard City Council passed a resolution to move forward toward annexing more than 200 acres at a special-called meeting Tuesday, Dec. 15.

The petition for annexation was made by Katherine Taylor Teasdale, L. Teasdale and Darla Kay Graham for three tracts of land, including one of about 77 acres, one of about 35 acres and a third of about 110 acres for a total of 221.2 acres.

Bullard City Mayor Teresa Adams-Wilks said addition information will be collected and public hearings will be held before the council will consider approving the petition.

“It’s a great opportunity but we want to look at that very cautiously,” Wilks said. “We want to see growth come but we want it to be a positive growth.”

A portion of the 200 acres is along the east side of U.S. Highway 69, south of F.M. 344. According to Bullard City Manager Larry Morgan, about 145 acres would be sold for development, unless something changes before and during the public hearings. There would be potential for commercial development.

“This is a blank sheet of paper for someone looking for a commercial site for retail,” Morgan said. “The best thing for the city and the citizens would be a commercial/ retail site for shopping and eating.”

Morgan said the property is cleared for development for the most part, and a sewer line runs across the site. He also said a 12-inch water line is nearby.

The public hearings will be at 6 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at the Bullard City Hall.

The petition comes on the heels of an announcement by A. W. Hines, developer and former Bullard mayor, for a $50 million residential/retail development, also on U.S. Highway 69 across F.M. 344 from the site of the above-mentioned petition.

Hines wants to build two- and three-story buildings for about 1,000 residents in what he referred to as a “high-end” development that would include a walking trail, a recreation center, and a pool, and would be within walking distance of retail stores and restaurants.
