“The great thing about these satellites (clubs) is to be self-sufficient,” said Jay Misenheimer, CEO for Food Fast convenience stores of Tyler.

Food Fast and Childrens Charities of Tyler donated $10,000 to the club. The funds will be used for initial operating costs. Organizers also said de Wet also made a substantial donation to help get the club organized.

Beginning Jan. 4, a BGCET after-school program at Bullard will serve Kindergarten through fifth grade students.

The Club will be open from 3 to 6 p.m. everyday after school. During club hours, members will receive a snack, homework help and tutoring, life-enhancing programs and character development experiences.

There is a membership fee, supply fee and weekly tuition. The club will offer financial assistance, if needed.

We are so excited to have a great program like this for the students,” said Jean Dark, one of the club organizers.

The club will meet at Bullard Elementary School. Teachers also will be available.

“There’s a lot of teachers involved and tutoring becomes a lot easier,” Dark said.
