BULLARD - As an unforgettable, great football season ends.... so does a set of gridiron stats that will be setting trends for years to come at The Brook Hill School.
Many records were set this season for a young program that loses only four seniors, all vital cogs, with the graduation of Jeremey Chappell, two-way lineman mauler Heath Dickey, Justin Northcutt and speedster, Zachary Cool.
The ‘Triple Threat Review’ of Jeremey Chappelle, Tyler Baker, and J.B. Moss have been bigtime players on both sides of the ball and responsible for the majority of the Guard points this year, while posting a 12-2 mark as the Division III state runner-up.
A prolific offense that turned out 5,846 yards of offense, for a 418 yard-pergame average, scoring 620 points, for a 44.2 average per game his year.
In district play, 463.4 per game in yardage and 53.8 points per game led to their fourth consecutive undefeated district title.
J.B. MOSS SOPHOMORE
The ‘Triple Threat Review’ has accounted for 1,999 of the 2,980 rushing yards, in a combined 189 tries. Also, 2,190 of the 2,866 receiving yards came with the trio making 92 of 139 receptions on the year.
Additionally, they have run for 34 of the 47 TDs on the ground, caught 25 of the 30 scoring passes, and thrown 26 of the 30 TD throws.
As quarterback, Baker finished with 1,083 yards, rushing on 113 carries and scoring 19 TD’s. Baker also passed for 2,090 yards while going 90-of-134, with 23 TD’s, and only five interceptions.
Baker also made two catches on the year for 28 yards, and one touchdown.
Offensively Chappelle ends with 1,439 yards receiving and 16 TD’s, carried the ball for a score in five tries, and returned a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns on the year.
JEREMEY CHAPPELLE SENIOR
The youngest of the trio, Moss has added equally impressive numbers plus adds the kicking totals to his portfolio to lead the team in scoring.
Just a sophomore, Moss ran for 900 yards in 71 tries with 14 touchdowns, caught 35 passes for 723 yards and eight TD’s, and passed for 586 yards, throwing 32-of-53, and three scores.
Kicking, Moss was 57-of- 64 in extra-points, and made three field goals for an additional 57 points. Punting, Moss put up huge numbers as well, booting at a 40.1 average in only 16 punts for the entire season.
The ‘Triple Threat Review’ was a force to contend with, when the other team had the ball.
Baker, Moss and Chappelle on defense, combined for eight of the team’s 20 interceptions, three of which were taken to the house.
Baker has 57 tackles, 5.5 for loss and 1.5 sacks, and one interception.
TYLER BAKER JUNIOR
Chappelle has 62.5 tackles, 2.5 for a loss, and 1.5 sacks to go with his four pickoffs, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, returning on interception for a touchdown.
Moss finished up with 22 tackles and three interceptions, taking two of those to the house for pick- 6s.
The sophomore Moss has accounted for 199 of the Guard’s 620 points.
None of the points possible, without an offensive line that loses two seasoned seniors.
‘The Hoss’, Heath Dickey, is already assured a scholarship by one northern law school. The threetime, all-district pick made 29 tackles, eight for a loss, made two sacks, and forced a fumble.
On offense, Dickey served up pancakes along with Northcutt and company, to make way for the 2,980 yards on the ground.
Justin Northcutt is another two-way sparkplug that must be replaced on the line.
(Banner Staff Photo by Doc Smith) Senior two-way standouts, Heath Dickey (at left), and Justin Northcutt (No. 72) come out for the second half with some inspirational words for The Guard’s trenchmen. Both players are just a few of the two-way, all-dsitrict players in next week’s edition.
Last but not least of the graduates, Zach Cool made his contributions with 190 yards, rushing 349 yards in receptions.
Do not forget, there is ‘Double Trouble’ with Baker, Moss and other young players like Jared Dickey, Ross Lee, and others ready to fill whatever the need may be in 2010.
Junior linebackers Tallen Harris and Matthew Ruark return to lead the defense.
The duo led the team with Harris making 92 tackles, and Matthew Ruark with 39.5 stops, and leading the team with 8.5 sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss.
Running back and defensive back, A.J. Minter added 74 tackles, 5.5 sacks.s and 11.5 tackles for a loss.
