Third-ranked Guard hoops off to good start; only getting better after football

TYLER – The Brook Hill Guard still missing a few major players for the upcoming basketball season, started off with two impressive wins in the Burger King Classic at Tyler-Lee’s gymnasium this past week.
An early morning win on Friday over Class 1A, top-ranked Slocum was followed on Saturday morning with a thrilling 57-50, overtime win over T.K. Gorman.
Brook Hill (2-0), will play Nacogdoches after press deadline on Tuesday. Brook Hill plays in the Fort Worth-Brewer Tournament this weekend, beginning on Thursday.

The Guard certainly did not back off when they had their schedule set, facing the top-ranked, Class 1A, Slocum in the first game of the season.
Leading 24-18 at the half, the Guard staved off a late run by the Mustangs for the 39-37 win.
It was a chilly shooting, and Clardy morning on Friday as brothers John and Luke scored nine and seven points respectively while controlling the boards in the first half of play.
Brook Hill point guard, Pablo Fonseca was a late spark-plug for head coach Wally Dawkins, making six steals, five assists and scoring eight points. Carter Clements also made five points and five steals in the win.
Mason Spradlin and Colton Townlee nailed crucial 3-pointers for the Guard to aid in the opening victory.
Brook Hill 57, T.K. Gorman 50

T.K. Gorman scored the last eight points in regulation to force overtime.
Overtime belonged to Brook Hill.
Brook Hill pulled out a 57-50 overtime win over Gorman in the first game of the second day, at the Burger King Classic at the REL Varsity Gymnasium on Saturday.
Mason Spradlin finished up with a game-high 21-points, scoring four points and snagging three rebounds as overtime started, to give the Guard built a 11-point lead. Spradlin added ten rebounds and five steals. The bulge was the largest of the entire game.
Brook Hill had an eight-point lead at 43-35 with 1:13 to play in regulation when Gorman began its run.
Guard senior Luke Clardy pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds to go with his 15 points. Pablo Fonseca came off the bench for Brook Hill to add 10 points, five rebounds and three steals.
