Guard makes new mark with state title shot

CORSICANA – The game the Brook Hill Guard has waited and hoped for all season long is on.
The Guard will play for the TAPPS Division III next week after shocking Arlington-Pantego, 54-29, at Tiger Stadium on Friday afternoon in the state semi-finals.
Brook Hill quarterback, Tyler Baker ran for 168 yards and passed for another 295 to lead to the runaway. Baker accounted for 126 rushing and 126 passing in the opening half alone.

Senior wide receiver, Jeremey Chappelle started the Brook Hill scoring and ended it later in startling fashion.
Chappelle grabbed the lead, hauling in a 25-yard scoring strike from Baker.
Pantego answered back with a field goal before Brook Hill reeled off three consecutive TD’s with Baker scoring on runs of 44- and 39-yards. Baker then threw a strike to Jared Dickey for 27-3, Guard advantage.
Pantego running back, Michael Anunda plunged over for five-yards to narrow the gap. J.B. Moss, however, was quick with another Guard tally as he ran 37-yards for the 34-9, halftime score.
Brook Hill held a huge 337-89 advantage in yardage at the half, as they took a 34-9 lead in to intermission.
Baker added a 17-yard , third quarter score, while A.J. Minter ran in from twoyards, and Chappelle capped off the Guard scoring with a 99-yard touchdown reception with 4:30 left in the game.
Anunda added his fourth score of the night with 37-seconds left to finalize the 54- 29, final.
Moss had four carries for 76-yards, and one TD, while Minter added 22-yards on four totes and a score.
Chappelle had five catches for 143 yards, and two scores for Brook Hill.
The Guard plays defending champion Waco-Reicher Saturday night in the TAPPS Division III state title game, set for Leo Buckley Stadium in Killeen at 7.
